I loved driving this road. Windy, twisting, dark, FUN! Have a confident driver and you'll enjoy the drive up as much as the sunrise at Haleakala itself. Be weary of those with motion sickness, it may be a tad much.
This is a crazy road, very squiggly and wiggly but it's very scenic. You get to ride above the clouds which is mind-blowing! 10000 feet elevation, you get from 80 degrees to 30 degrees so bring a jacket so you can fully enjoy the experience without feeling cold. There are also a bunch of stops to enjoy the view, take... 更多
This drive was terrifying for me but exciting at the same time. It's one of those things that you do and then say to yourself at the end "I Can not believe I did that" There was one lady that pulled over crying. I felt bad for her but I had to keep going or I would've been on the... 更多
There are so many great views to be had that the highway builders made spots to stop and enjoy them. Enjoyed it a whole lot more in the daytime. At night, it can grate on the nerves a bit for the driver.
This steep, switchback road goes from the lowland up to 10,000 feet. It has mind-boggling views, but driver keep your eyes on the road. And don't pester the Nēnē. When you look at the observatory under construction, consider this—all the trucks and machinery had to come up the same way you did. Bring a jacket, it gets cold up on... 更多
Good road with lots of views.. make sure before you go you can see the top! When clear the views from top are awesome. Look for birds along the way!
Same speed up and down hill... but sooo many curves that it is nauseating - better to go downhill on a bike than by car unless you spent night in the crater (cabins available).
Like the road to Hana this can be very dangerous. As most people are travelling in the dark to travel to the summit for sunrise. Lots of twists and turns as well as no sight areas. If you are not a sure and steady driver, take a tour bus!!!
Winding road that is VERY enjoyable to drive and climbs to 10,000 feet. TIPS: 1.) prior to entering the park, it is open range so be on the lookout for cows that can wander on the road. 2.) if you are a timid driver please heed the signs to use the turnouts and allow those behind you to pass.
