Great drive to the top of the Maui world. Views of the other Islands and down on the clouds covering Maui. Worth the drive and the cost of park admission.
20 and 30 mph speed limits with many switchbacks forcing you to go slower. But, you're not on the road to get somewhere in a hurry, you're on the road to enjoy the sights.
We drove up to the top of Haleakala on a very cloudy and foggy day. There are many switchbacks and the road is interesting. We come from a mountain area so the road didn't bother us. However, it was a bit challenging in the fog and 5 feet visibility at times. The clouds, mist, and fog never lifted. So it... 更多
We did drive to the top where it was very cold--just as expected. We stayed for 45 minutes and the clouds never did clear. We still enjoyed the stop--the kids will remember the adventure. Not sure that I would take the time next time in Maui. Take Dramamine if you get car sick.
The roads are in great shape. The ride is about 30 to 35 minutes to reach 10,000 feet elevation. When you get to the top the views are priceless. But if you have a height phobia I don't recommend.
What a magnificent and beautiful experience! You will see many different ecosystems along the main hwy to the crater. I recommend stopping at Kula Lodge on your way up for a bite or needed break from the drive. The drive itself is spectacular as you wind around the mt. going higher and higher above the clouds. I was fine with... 更多
If you haven't gone, you really should. Make a half day of it and have lunch in Makawao before or after. It really takes 3-4 hrs. The views and sights are so unique. Some say it's like Mars or the Moon :-) It can be chilly so bring layers.. Yes pants and a jacket. Was 59 at 2pm ! And... 更多
I did not enjoy driving on this road, as I do not particularly enjoy mountain road driving. However, it is the only way to Haleakala Crater at the top, and that is a must do visit if on Maui. I consider the highway a necessary evil in visiting the state park and crater at the top of Haleakala.
Get in your car and go. If your a hiker get those shoes on. It the most amazing site to see and may never see anything like this again. One of the locals said to us"you don't come all this way and not go and see. This is number on attraction. Go with your gopro and camera. If your a... 更多
This should be on your bucket list. You will think of a 1,000 reasons why you should not go, but do the right thing...how many times will you be on Maui and make the trip. It is like looking at heaven with all the different beautiful colors before the sun started to rise and of course during the sun rise.... 更多
