These falls were so not even worth going the 11 minutes out of the way to see. I didn't even take a picture of them because they were not impressive.
To get there, we followed Google maps. There is a small parking lot and you just get out of your car to view them. No hiking required.
Don't miss this one, folks. It's an easy 5 minute drive from the highway (just north of the Wailua River) up to the lookout parking lot. The falls are in the distance, and are a must see. The upper Wailua River is just across the road (mind the cars) with another great picture opportunity.
The best asset of the Opaekaa Falls is that they are accessible for viewing without having to hike or walk very far.
The parking area is plentiful. There is a restroom facility adjacent to the parking lot. The falls are viewable from a sidewalk/walkway and are scenic.
Take a quick look at the photos everyone has posted here, and you'll...
My first suggestion would be to visit Opaekaa Falls first then make your way to Wailua Falls. Opaekaa is not as impressive but when you get to Wailua you appreciate the difference. Opaekaa is seen from a distance and Wailua can be seen up close and personal. Definitely cross the road to see the river while you are there. There...
They aren't as close to the road as Wailua Falls, but they are very pretty falls and worth seeing. There's lots of parking and restrooms available. Cross the street for another pretty view of the Wailua River!
