A free park where some animals who cannot be reintegrated into the wild are kept. The enclosures are well maintained. Great for families with young children. Mature trees provide shade all day. 1/2 hour-1hour to see the whole zoo. Animals look healthy in larger than average enclosures. Birchmore Trail and Memorial Park in close vicinity.
My young son loves coming to this small zoo. The bears and eagle are his favorite. I love all of the shade and the nice walk around the pond. There is also a decent size playground, but it is in the direct sun.
I've been there too many times to count, with my own children, and now with grandchildren. The kids love exploring the zoo and seeing many of the animals up close. The playground by the lake is perfect for little ones. The lake is a lovely, peaceful setting for reflection or picnicking.
The local Athens zoo is a free zoo that takes in animals local to North Georgia, and is very educational to its guests about these animals. Most people don't realize that there is a zoo in Athens but there is and it is lovely. Best of all its free! It doesn't have the big exhibits like the big city zoos but it is nestled in the woods and is just perfect for a morning or afternoon stroll. One thing I would love to point out is... 更多
This was a nice break from the other stuff we were doing. The zoo has limited animals but we liked the otter and the bears the best. Snakes were pretty cool as well. It's free so the value is very high. If you are looking for something to do fro about an hour or so...the zoo is fun.
A good zoo full of Georgia native animals. Very educational about the animals and about the state and its inhabitants. Make sure to stop by the Black Bear exhibit. The park is also a very good area for cookouts, children's activities, and a nice stroll around the pond.
