An essential post-classic Maya site that is a must-see regarding Kaqchikel history. This is a beautiful site on the outskirts of Tecpan, Guatemla and worth the short trip off the main highway to see it.
We were lucky enough to see a Mayan Ceremony -- So interesting!! I encourage taking a knowledgable guide with you as there is so much to learn.
I highly recommend getting a guide. When we arrived there were no English-speaking guides available so we walked around by ourselves. There are displays with extensive information in both Spanish and what I assume to be an Indian language, but not in English. I highly recommend using a guide to tour the ruins. Ours was excellent: very knowledgeable and very personable. He added SO SO MUCH to the experience. You can still see the ruins, but might choose not to walk it. There are Shamen at the back of the property, you must walk past the ruins... 更多
We couldn't get to Tikal so we stopped at Iximche and are glad we did. It was nearly empty, so we were able to stroll around the ruins at leisure; a bonus was seeing a Mayan ritual performed by locals (not a staged performance) at the altar at the back of the archeological site.
What a super place!!! It's definitely worth a visit on your next trip to Guatemala. The scenery is lovely. Be sure to hire a guide as you enter the park gates. There are signs you can read for each ancient plaza area but I think a guide would be able to explain it much better. I heard that the guides... 更多
