The city hall building nearby reminds me of the Pantheon in Rome, but when we were there, it was closed. I have seen some pictures of the inside from websites, and they appear to be quite fabulous. Maybe it worthy a quick stop/break if you are passing through highway 101
The Sunken Gardens in Atascadero, CA is a beautiful park that is the perfect place to take a break from the daily grind, have a picnic lunch, let your children run and play or just enjoy the outdoors in the middle of town.
There is not much to see in downtown Atascadero, but this is worth the short drive off the 101 freeway to see the park, fountain and beautifully, restored, historical city hall.
This is a great place to go and relax, toss a Frisbee with your dog, or sit and enjoy the view of the central fountain or the Historic Administration building.
I know it sounds strange...but being a long time resident of Atascadero, there was a time when the Sunken Gardens were NOT very pretty. Those times are in the past. Had some time to kill today, walked around downtown and happened upon the Sunken Garden and the beautiful City Hall. Had the opportunity to sit down and just enjoy the beautifully manicured landscape. The fountain in the center and ones that surrounded City Hall were just gorgeous. So peaceful.
