My husband and I visited the Amboy Crater between stops at Joshua Tree and Needles, CA. We didn't hike to the crater, since we were with our dog, but just being able to take some photos of the Crater and viewing it from afar was worth the detour. It IS a walk to the crater, all signs and information on-line... 更多
Right off Route 66 outside Amboy is a pull out sight to the crater. A short time we got to the top parking lot. A short trail took us to the overlook. Was surprised to see the size of the crater. Knowing from looking at the other extinct volcano's around. This must have been here for a very long time.
Me and my husband are doing free hiking trips across Southern California. He discover this place and it was stunning!! Maybe more than a mile hike, it was easy for me. Hard part was when I want to see the view. From inside the crater, climb the wall of the volcano and you'll see the amazing view. Heading was fine... 更多
Me, my Husband & our adult daughter went to the Crater Sat. Feb.11,2016. My daughter & husband liked it but it was a long trek for me. It's quite a long walk from the parking lot to the Crater. Then you walk around near the back to climb up into the Crater. I don't like climbing up places that has... 更多
This is a volcanic crater that is easy to spot when you get to Amboy. It is west of the town and has a nice viewing area from afar and bathrooms. The crater itself is a ways away from the viewing and it takes about 3 hours to walk there and back so be prepared with GOOD Health and Hiking skills... 更多
Ya maybe little too hot in Aug to hike to the top but worth the stop anyway. 1 1/2 mile hike one way to the crater and then some to the top. Many gazebos for a picnic lunch and bathrooms that were very clean. Has a ADA ramp to a shaded gazebo. Many facts posted on the information boards around... 更多
We only went here because our route down the 66 took us within a mile of the viewpoint. It may be a volcano but it's long extinct and too be honest looks more like a cylindrical coal heap. Sounds a bit unkind but there you go. It's also a mile out and another back to go and walk up close... 更多
Although this place is in the middle of nowhere, it is worth the drive. The crater is about a mile away from the parking lot so a very doable short hike, but if you go during warm weather be certain to bring lots of water. There is no water at the site. You will walk through black rock lava fields... 更多
Amazing to see Drive in to the parking area just past Roy's heading west You can walk to the edge and enter via a track at the rear inside the chamber feels surreal but that could just have been the 30 min walk to get there You can walk the rim but take water and give yourself at least 2... 更多
You don't get to see stuff like this everyday in California. Molten rock and a huge crater! We didn't get to go for the hike. I thought I saw on trip advisor there was a road that took you up but I think it was the wrong crater. It's beautiful and amazing! Must see!
