Explore the Society of the Cincinnati's historic headquarters, Anderson House, a National Historic Landmark that has been the Society's home since 1938. The Society and its American Revolution Institute work to honor the men and women who won American independence in the Revolutionary War by supporting advanced study, presenting exhibitions and other public programs, advocating preservation, and providing resources to teachers and students. Tours of Anderson House reveal the history of the Society of the Cincinnati, the significance of the American Revolution, and the lives and collections of the home's first owners, Larz and Isabel Anderson. The mansion was completed in 1905 for the Andersons, a wealthy couple who devoted their lives to public service, travel, entertaining, collecting, and philanthropy-interests and activities that are reflected in Anderson House, where much of the couple's art collection and furnishings are still on display. Guided tours begin at 15 minutes past each hour. Anderson House also offers a changing exhibition gallery, a research library, and an active calendar of public programs.

The mansion supports the Order of Cincinnatus, a men-only organization of descendants of those who served as officers in the Revolutionary War. The first Order president was George Washington; the second was Alexander Hamilton. The Andersons, from Boston, donated the mansion to the Order after Mr. Anderson's death and his wife's subsequent move back to Boston. Check their website for... 更多

Spend an hour touring this fascinating mansion built by an American diplomat and socialite at the turn of the 20th century - you will enjoy the beautiful architecture, decor, art, and the collection of artifacts along with learning about the family history intertwined with the history of the country. American Revolution is not at all the focus of the tour... 更多

This museum is a combination of a glimpse into a society founded by George Washington, a Gatsby-like couple's home frozen in time, and 230 years of random moments in American political history rolled into a one hour tour. The Anderson's certainly loved their country and the role their family played in it, but this house also is a showcase for... 更多

Anderson House is the Head Quarter of the Head Quarter of The Society of Cincinnati (Revolutionary War male descendants) and the American Revolution Institute). It is located in the heart of DuPont Circle and the Embassy Row area of Washington D.C. The house was gorgeously built with as political/social functions by Ambassador and Mrs.Larz Anderson and later was given to... 更多

This is near the Phillips Museum and I would definitely go here. Never heard of the Cincinnatus society before and the Anderson family and home that supported them and still do to this day. It started back in the Civil War time. It is a gorgeous home, beautifully decorated with outstanding furniture and artifacts in it. Definitely do the tour.

We have visited Washington D.c. many, many times, but did not know about this amazing, historical house. The house is owned by the Society of Cincinnati, a genealogy society dating from the Revolutionary War. Our tour guide was wonderful and informative about the Society, the Revolutionary War period and the house itself.

Although not sure about the Society of Cincinnati's commitment to help remember the Revolutionary War is through genealogy only and not based on ideology, Anderson House is a great place for the occasional classical music concerts open to the public and the tour is worth the visit if you would like to know more about the history of the Revolutionary... 更多

While in Washington, I had a few free hours in the morning and found this tour, close to my hotel, mentioned in Trip Advisor. The Anderson House was a wonderful discovery that introduced me to the Society of the Cincinnati, aspects of the Revolutionary War and Isabelle and Larz Anderson. Our docent was very knowledgeable on many aspects of the... 更多
