The story of the Salton Sea is bizarre and more than a little sad. I've wanted to see this giant accidental lake for a long time, and even in its decline, it's a fascinating place. That said, the state park is under-resourced, and if you come on a weekday in the off-season, the visitors' center may not be open, which... 更多
Stopped here on our way back from the 1000 Palms Oasis and wish we hadn't! The place was empty and other than driving nearly 80 miles around the perimeter there is nothing to see, no places for food or drink and the tourist centre staff had little to offer.
Have seen pictures, articles and documentaries on this place and having lived in California all my life made this a must place to go visit. I'm sure being there in August didn't help but it was hot and odorous, (due to the thousands of fish carcasses littering the shoreline) and feels like a place that wants to be left alone.... 更多
We had seen all the documentaries on this are and we were in Vegas so we thought now would be a great time to do a road trip to the Salton Sea. It is best to read the history of this sea, prior to visiting, to really understand how this "lake" came to be. Make sure to bring lots of... 更多
My husband wanted to see the Salton Sea, so we drove from Palm Springs to have a look (maybe an hour drive). Of course it was July, and it's desert, so it was very hot, over 100 degrees. We drove around on one side that had a few teeny towns, but not much else. We eventually decided to drive around... 更多
Worth driving out to if you have time to spare in the Palm Springs area. Agree that it is helpful to research it before you go. The community itself is like a war zone-spooky!
It is best to read the history of this sea, prior to visiting, to really understand how this "lake" come to be...it was a mistake to begin with.....And things continue to deteriorate very rapidly, with climate change or not. Brings lots of water, food, and a full tank of gas! Be open minded and you will see beauty..just maybe different... 更多
For those who enjoy kitsch. There is much to see in this area, from the clearly devastated ecosystem of the "Sea" and its skeleton-littered beaches to the wastes of the former resort and slab city. Doable as a day trip from Joshua Tree or Palm Springs.
we were told to visit while in Desert Springs seeing a large "sea" in the middle of the desert was beautiful however the area is now the cause for air pollution so sad to see how run down the area has become local government really needs to step in to revive this place it is so beautiful actually worth the... 更多
The Salton Sea is a place I have read and heard about over the years so we decided to go see it for ourselves. You can read all about the history of the area in many other places, so I won't go into it here. I will tell you the area is more populated than what I had been led... 更多
