The Mojave Desert National Preserve is definitely a worthwhile drive. Various things to see during your visit include: cacti, joshua trees, lava beds, sand dune and animal species. The lava bed and lava rocks lying beside the road was very interesting. Make sure and gas up prior to entering the preserve.

On our way down to Joshua Tree we decided to make a pit stop here at Mojave. We did a quick drive through and stopped for pictures but there are campgrounds and trails here. You could spend an entire day here and then some.
