Take a boat tour of the area and have them drop you off at the castle instead of walking the bridge. Each display in the castle has detailed descriptions in various languages. Who knew that this was once the capital of the greater Lithuania that included Poland?
We happened upon this place while walking through Kaunas on a very cold night in December. Pretty cool ruin. Hope to see it in the daytime next time and hopefully warmer.
Spent a couple of hours exploring the Castle, nearby Cathedral which the Soviets used as a warehouse which has some very impressive carvings/mouldings.
Kaunas 'castle' is so accessible once you're in Old Town that it'd be a shame to miss it, however there's not much to it at all.
Not as impressive as Trakai, but anyway, it is in the old town, so you can not really miss it. Good view of the city from there.
