I believe that the interesting thing behind is the history of the place, the gate itself is normal, nothing wonderful. This gate will take you to the history of this area in Veszprem. You can park your car just at the small square before the gate. In this area there are nice restaurants and cafes just for info.
A visit to the Heroes' Gate will give a you a greater understanding of the turbulent history of Hungary during the revolution and freedom fight of 1848/1849 and 1956 and also during World Wars I and 2,. Excellent display in both Hungarian and English and the cost for entry is negligible, so no excuses if you are interested in History.
It was built memorating the victims of WW I. There is an exhibition inside about the heroes of important wars in history, there is a terrace to provide a view of the city and a small present shop attached to it.
The gate has historical value to the Castle but is a reproduction. It is really not significient by itself it is everything you see on the Hill that makes this so worthwhile. This should not be separated out from the Castle Hill site.
