I would recommend this for a few hours trip with toddlers. It is very clean, there is also a restaurant, new toilets. Also amazing playground for kids.
zoo is located outside the city but there is a local bus service that stops right outsdide and takes about 15 minutes from Ljubiana city centre. Seven years ago I was there after more than ten years. After that I visit LJ ZOO two to three times a year. Always when I go back I see something new. They are very friendly to the families and it is easy to spend whole day there.
I would not recommend it as a must visit in Ljubljana, but if you ran out of ideas- go ahead. The area with goats, sheeps is nice, the kids can pet them. The playground is also nice. But the staff at the buffet with ice cream and snacks were not really enthusiastic...
Provided you are comfortable with the idea of visiting a zoo then this one is of a good standard. The enclosures are fair to good. My children enjoyed walking the zoo and seeing the variety of animals. Their favorite was the baby chicks and ducks. They also really enjoyed the play areas available throughout the zoo.
This is the only "real" zoo in Slovenia, and it's really good for it's size. It doesn't take all day to get around, but good two hours for sure.
