Decided to take a closer look at the replica of the brig Amity. I was met by a very pleasant guide and handed a little recorder so I could wander around and learn all about the ship's interesting history. Going below deck is quite an experience and not for the claustrophobic, but it was great to learn about life at... 更多
The museum incorporates The Residency and outbuildings as well as a full size replica of The Brig Amity with an interesting and informative commentary. The museum had an excellent display of The World at War featuring Naval battles.
Went to see the Amity , which is very interesting and well presented, and then went into Museum. The current exhibition is "Lost Connections" and so sad. This shows interviews with both mothers who were forced to give up their babies and the children who were adopted. To think this was happening still in the late 60's is devastating. On a... 更多
The Western Australian Museum in Albany adds some local colour to the WA Museum's offerings. Albany was the first British settlement in WA, a few years before Perth, but it did not flourish as Perth did. Still, the Albany Museum has some good offerings from colonial times. The refurbished museum overlooks Albany's pride and joy, Princess Royal Harbour. It also... 更多
Not sure what the last review is talking about as the WA Museum Albany does not have a food outlet attached!? Maybe they mean the Garrison Restaurant at the Albany Heritage Park! I found the staff friendly, helpful and the kids loved all the fun activities!
A great place to while away a few hours with younger children. From the museum you can do a tour of the Amity (this attracts a small fee), tour the old buildings and look at current exhibitions, or select to do a range of craft activities (each of which attracts a small cost), play educational games, or browse the gift... 更多
When we visited there was an exhibition on Aborigines and their involvement as soldiers in the various wars from the First World War through to Afghanistan. It was a static exhibition with lots of photos and lots of text but did tell a lot of personal stories. Worth a look. The normal exhibition on some of Albany's history is quite... 更多
I visited the museum during a short stay in Albany and I'm pleased that I did. The staff were very friendly and welcomed me when I arrived, and told me about the museum and its various exhibits. The museum itself is spread over several adjacent buildings and includes the Replica of the Brig Amity ship. I particularly enjoyed the natural... 更多
Great museum with lots of variety. The great thing is its free, apart from if you wanna go inside the ship, even that is only $5 per adult, but you can visit the top deck for free, the lower decks you get an audio tour and on a warm day its nice n cool inside, but be warned you need... 更多
able to view ship and move around, safe for families but watch little ones, gives a good idea on how life was lived on board, close to town and easy to access
