The Otago Settlers Museum is centrally located a short walk from the much photographed Dunedin Railway Station. It is well worth a visit. Entry is free but a donations box is prominently located. Many displays are interactive, they are generally very well curated and easy to walk around. They start with the first arrivals to the Dunedin area and move... 更多
As another reviewer said.....I was apprehensive, being a museum, that I find can be somewhat boring after some time. This is an incredible museum....packed with information and so well laid out. We were there for maybe 2 or more hours and couldn't take in everything and give it attention the way we wanted. We found it fascinating and hated to... 更多
We spent a full morning here and it was really fascinating. A great historical picture of how Dunedin came about, from the Maori, the European settlers, the Gold Rush etc. It was particularly special as the Anzac Exhibit was still there.
Quite simply, this is a fantastic museum, and if you only go to one museum in NZ, then it should be here. We spent more than 3 interesting hours here and still didn't have time to see everything. There are some wonderful exhibits on the Maori beginnings, and the early European settlement. In fact, the interactive software system that allows... 更多
I was a little apprehensive before I went. You know, just another museum... Well I was quite wrong. I was very impressed with the content and quality of exhibits. A very thought provoking presentation - even found my family name amongst the exhibits.
First time back since the upgrade and its pretty amazing. Well done. Love the photographs of the settlers and how they are interactive. The layout is well designed and considered. Would like to see even more interactive things for young children. Also don't over do it on the toilet cleaner. The smell is overpowering but they are very nice and... 更多
I could spend hours in here and still not see everything. This place is a real credit to the people of Otago. Well laid out and presented even the lady at the kiosk was super friendly.
We thoroughly enjoyed visiting this museum. It show cases New Zealand's short history in a very interactive way. We love looking through the old portraits in the gallery room, zooming in on them with the computer system and finding out about the people and their arrival to New Zealand. It makes a bunch of portraits on the wall come to... 更多
I had time and there no cover charge for the visit... however I was pleasantly surprised at how much Toitu Otago Settlers has to offer. The museum is beautiful, well planned and designed. It goes beyond the history of Dunedin and its original settlers... Interactive area for kids is incredibly cute.... I am certain children will enjoy it. A MUST... 更多
plenty of interactive displays for adults and kids...with a fun time dressing up by all family members The Anzac display was excellent and the documentary showing at the display was very interesting. Wished we could have stayed longer.
Amazing collection. I could have stayed longer but we had to leave to catch our cruise. Parked out front for $2 although I believe there was parking around the back. Walk to Dunedin Railway station from here for photo.
Terrific modern, well thought out design. Many interactive displays and 'talking heads' from settlers and their descendants make this a great museum for all ages. Can cover it in a half day but could easily take a day to take it all in. Cafe pretty good too!
A superbly well done exhibition dedicated to the original Scottish settlers and Otago history throughout two centuries and two world wars. The interactive displays are especially imaginative. I would have liked to see more about the Maori settlements. There was a very small exhibit at the beginning of the museum, but it was not very informative (e.g., what do we... 更多
I love the pieces on display, the old cars and buses. Very interesting insight for everyone. I think the locals should go too. The Emmersons is too expensive for my taste, will have that elsewhere from now on.
Loved it well laid out lots of interactive things to do including dressing up as well as lots of very informative things. Absolutely well worth a visit for adults and kids alike. AAAA++++
