This power station is vast with pipes extending like arches over the road way. It is a very interesting stop and does not take more then 15 minutes or so to drive through.
It was interesting to drive to the top of the lookout and see all the pipes and infrastructure. not far of the main road so a quick drive in was worth it
We drove down the road that runs through the power plant and had a little walk. I have never seen so much natural steam. The power plant consists of 5km of pipes with expansion areas and a number of well heads. There is a viewing area that is at the top of the hill, if you follow the road round.... 更多
Took this tour with a large tour group. I did get a bit nervous traveling so far down to the station but glad we did the tour. Lots of places for photos as well.
Visited Tuesday 6th September. We turned off the highway and followed the road as it wound it's way through the power station and up to the lookout. Great views down the valley where the power station is situated. And best of all it's free to do.
Isn't it always the way that you didn't mean to turn in somewhere and all of a sudden you found a hidden gem...or as we call them Daddy detours......we drove into the parking lot for the Wairakai terraces and decided we didn't want to pay for this attraction given the rain and we noticed a small road off to the... 更多
if you are into geothermal energy ( i am HS earth science teacher) then it is great to stop and take a look at the facilities from teh viewpoint. no organized tour - just a drive through the property with some explanation signs at the viewpoint.
Visited back in Feb 2014. Had a very educational trip. The road view to that place was awesome! Worth a visit and the staff at the station very informative in explaining all the function, safety and methods in use. With no background of engineering and technical that time, this trip had shown me lots of what is engineering all about.
We drove through the power station land, looking at all the coils and pipelines and descriptions of how it all worked. This is a small but amazing piece of infrastructure.
