We went for the 4:00 display but as the system was under maintenance, there was really nothing to see. This may not be an ongoing situation, but wise to check before driving out there.
We struggled to find this place, the location according to trip advisor drops you about 10kms away so ignore it. On your satnav/google maps search for Wairakei terraces, turn left up this road and you will find the pipes that feed the main power station. This is the most interesting bit as you can't really see the main power station.... 更多
This power station is vast with pipes extending like arches over the road way. It is a very interesting stop and does not take more then 15 minutes or so to drive through.
It was interesting to drive to the top of the lookout and see all the pipes and infrastructure. not far of the main road so a quick drive in was worth it
We drove down the road that runs through the power plant and had a little walk. I have never seen so much natural steam. The power plant consists of 5km of pipes with expansion areas and a number of well heads. There is a viewing area that is at the top of the hill, if you follow the road round.... 更多
Took this tour with a large tour group. I did get a bit nervous traveling so far down to the station but glad we did the tour. Lots of places for photos as well.
Visited Tuesday 6th September. We turned off the highway and followed the road as it wound it's way through the power station and up to the lookout. Great views down the valley where the power station is situated. And best of all it's free to do.
