Thoroughly enjoyed my four day, three night, Lake Waikaremoana guided walk with Sam the guide and Perrie the boatman and BBQ king. All aspects of the walk were well executed and ran to schedule. The enroute commentary was good and the meals well prepared. The walk and side walks had interest and variety. Very interesting morning tea stop at a... 更多
This place is amazing with so much to do. The waterfalls by the visitors centre are amazing, the hike up to Lake Waikariiti was peaceful with amazing bird life, exploring the caves was exciting - a little hairy at times - and Lou's Lookout showed off the incredible rock formations. One of my favourite places in NZ.
Fantastic scenery - poor facilities. The huts have inadequate facilities - even next to a massive lake the operators can't be bothered to run a pipe and put cold showers in the huts - or even toilet paper! Crowded, and often dirty facilities are a real disappointment on what should be a "great Walk"
Did this tramp with a couple of mates a few years back. Great trek! The lake is beautiful and so remote. The hike up the panekiri bluffs was tough and it started snowing as we went up but loved every step. Too cloudy to see the lake when we got to the top but had a few hints here and... 更多
Stunning location, magic around every corner - we booked two nights in the tent and one in the hut - had we been able we would have booked the top in the tent too - the sounds of nature are incredible Walk is simply stunning - for all fitness levels as there are many rest and viewing stops - the... 更多
We stayed at the Waikaremoana Holiday Park as part of a big family group - 10 adults and 10 children. The Holiday Park is right on the lake and has stunning views. The drive in was a solid 3 hours from Rotorua along a very windy gravel road, from Murupara. Travel sickness guaranteed in the back seat... definitely worth it... 更多
Spent four days doing the walk. Stayed three nights at the huts on the track. Huts generally good but need some maintenance. Panekire Hut has little or no water right now. This needs urgent attention. New ranger just started, named Mike. Very helpful guy with a great future I hope.
One of nature's true marvels. This is a must do if visiting the North Island of New Zealand! The beauty of this area is undeniable, the locals are super friendly and if it is adventure you're looking for look no further then Lake Waikaremoana.
Get there soon because the facilities are becoming run down - eg smelly toilets (more so than usual!), low water supplies (probably cos guttering into tank is broken). A good tramp though - saw or heard lots of birds. A reminder to visitors to clean up your cooking and sleeping area before you leave - so the next people dont... 更多
