A very nice area to snorkel from the beach at Great Keppel Island. The walk down to the beach was a bit challenging but certainly worth it. Saw many types of colourful fish. Time your snorkel for mid-tide or slightly lower.
A nice sized beach. Not alot of shade if you wanted to stay the day. Good for exploring around the rocks at either end.

Keppel is great to just relax. But if you want snorkeling the reef, Monkey Beach is the pick. Its best to walk the hour via Long Beach and back that way. So allow most of a day, take water and footwear. The direct route along the cliffs is somewhat shorter but very eroded.
So good to go around the island and find secret beached for a swim and BBQ hear is one I love just south of the old resort and warm enough to swim even in July.
We stayed on Keppel & this was one of the beaches recommended for snorkeling. I have seen coral reefs in a number of places in the Pacific and along the Australian coastline and this one was a bit disappointing. We travelled on a ' Freedom Fast Cats' boat to get to Great Keppel Island. You are delivered right on to the sand, in front of the Resorts in operation, that you cannot see from the beach.There are only one or two boats per day, each way. This island is like a ghost town.
