This is a fair way out of town, heading out along Harvey's Range Road. It does give you an idea of the vastness of the area. This is another road out to Charters Towers. On a clear day, you can see for miles; including the sights around Townsville. Just up the track there is a heritage homestead where you can sample high tea and other sumptuous fair.
We were heading to the Hervey Range Tea Rooms which are abobut a kilometre from the lookout. Its a beautiful view back across the valley to Townsville and Magnetic Island
Beautiful surroundings, authentic heritage experience, lovely food. Good service. Quiche a little too salty for me but well priced and very tasty. Partner enjoyed his steak sandwich.
Good views of Townsville can be had from here. If you're in this vicinity, try the Hervey's Range Heritage Tea Rooms. The house is of historical importance. They serve great tea and coffee and home made cakes, scones and apple pie. If you're an arty type, the craft shop will be right up your alley.
Worth stopping off for a photo opportunity on a clear day as the view is great. There is nothing there except for car parking for about 5-6 cars. If you head up the range then stop in and then keep going to the Heritage Tearooms for a cuppa & scone
If they don't have tap water available, so they should give complimentary bottled water. Tea and scones nice, staff ok, just ok. The setting is nice and a different experience. They need to do some maintenance work on the gardens.
Worth the drive from Townsville as the views can only be described as stunning. At the tea house I don't know that I would spend $50 (fifty) on some flash coffee though
