These gardens include a rainforest area, a cactus garden, a large herb garden, and lawns which lend themselves to events such as outdoor weddings.
We found the Queens Gardens in Townsville while we were wandering around one day, it’s a smaller park but has some incredible plants and trees and very nice walking paths. Do stay off the grass and there are dozens of ibis around but don’t feed them it just encourages them.
The Queens Gardens are quite small in comparison to many botanical gardens but they have some outstanding specimens of exotic tropical plants and offer a wonderful place to picnic, some great open spaces for kids to explore and you don't have to stay off the grass. Just be sure not to feed to ibis.
Visited the gardens in the middle of the day and the coolness of the surroundings was immediately(& thankfully) felt.The trees of the gardens are huge and in their shady undergrowth and from their massive branches are to be found an impressive number of HUGE spiders. We had just returned from climbing Castle Hill (we highly recommend this) and enjoyed 30 minutes slowly wandering the gardens. The gardens are very well maintained and there is a lovely photo opportunity looking back up the main entrance path with great plants either side and Castle Hill in the background.
