We visited on a hot afternoon just before close, check the opening hours before going, so we had about an hour to look around everywhere. There was no-one there which made it even more chilling. Walking around empty prison blocks and cells trying to imagine how it must have been as a prisoner in such extreme heat was impossible. There... 更多
This site is a fascinating insight into the development of Darwin over the hundred or so years that it was operating. It is a gold coin donation to enter but I would very much suggest that you put in a bit more, as I feel it is a site that is worth preserving. In the early days, the gaol was... 更多
Unfortunately we chose the hottest time of day, but overall the history and detail of what happened were documented- but such a 'boring' site as no interactive or hands on features - I understand there will be some money getting invested into the site, and it needs it. The area needs setting up as if it is still occupied with... 更多
We visited Fannie Bay Goal to see the art exhibition held at the goal which was part of the Darwin Festival. The Art Exhibition was extremely interesting with paintings done by the prisoners. We also walked around the goal to view the buildings. The Fannie Bay Goal stopped operating in 1979 & was once the detention centre in Darwin for... 更多
Excellent and full of history. Would recommend doing this tour as part of 6 places of interest around Darwin..Would like to thank Petra our tour guide on a wonderful tour around.
Very interesting to see how prisoners ....men, women AND children were housed. It's free entry, but a donation is welcome, and then you're free to walk around the whole complex at your own pace, on a self guided tour. The "Infirmary" building that was used to hang 2 European men tells their story, backed up by plenty of newspaper reports... 更多
Very interesting place, not very big but very antiquated. Doorways of cells very narrow, cells small. They even had a childrens section. Wouldn't have held many prisoners. Worth a look. Free entry.
If you got into trouble in the NT this is where you ended up, Its not very big but they did hang two men in there,Entry is by small donation you can spend half an hour or longer looking around, if i was sent there i would have spent my day in my cell it was a lot cooler than... 更多
A monument to the continued archaic practice of incarceration but we found it interesting. A great amount of history of Darwin too. Worth a visit if you are interested in police or prisons.
We really enjoyed our visit. Plenty of information available and able to visit every area and get a real feel of what it would have been like. Particularly interesting to visit the gallows, never seen anything like that before. Free entry is always a bonus for a family activity and we spent an hour there so very good value!
