We discovered this privately owned Chateau when visiting the Loire and what a great find it was! It is so full of history we found the visit very interesting. Informative plaques around the building provided a fascinating insight into its past. The most impressive part was the amazing work of the conservationists in restoring the wall paintings. It's painstaking work... 更多
A visit to a a chateau or two is almost compulsory when staying in the Loire valley and I, for one, have grown accustomed to wandering around finely manicured gardens and beautifully preserved architecture such as that at Villandry. However, the chateau at Gizeux is something different; this massive appendage to the village itself was clearly, at some time, the... 更多
We did the audio guide, which I recommend. Part of our stay so the tour was included with the stay. The castle was interesting with the family story. If your an art student you will be additionally impressed by the story of how the chateaux had been an art school centuries ago.
Lovely chateau off the beaten track and the major Loire valley attractions, but well worth a detour for a couple of hours. Excellent guided tours, in English if required.
Very interesting castle to visit : nice architecture, fantastic and rare wall paintings, etc. There are activities for children and even a night visit which is absolutely fantastic. It really deserves to be seen.
We visited in winter and the owner gave us a tour as part of the package for staying over night. The tour was okay and some of the paintings were nice but I didn't quite feel the whole history or chateau experience. I would not recommend this Chateau if it is the only one you plan to visit during your... 更多
Not quite the normal chateau visit. Chickens scratching about the ramparts and really helpful enthusiastic youngsters apparently in charge. Chateau is ragged at the edges and in need of some tlc but houses some amazing painted wood panel work. Wall friezes and furniture. Making it one of the best value visits in the loire .
Set in in idyllic countryside some way from the river but well worth the trip. Excellent handheld commentary by a native English speaker and we had the added pleasure of the Lady of the House taking us through some of the areas. We particularly liked the art studio room and the carriage museum. Careful restoration is going on and we... 更多
