Impossible to be in the region and not wanting to see the sculpture. It's impressive how big it is. You can get to it by car, but also by boat from Orsova.
The scenery in this region is very beautiful. This rock statue is awesome. The history of it all makes it come alive so it's best to go with a well informed guide. The road to the statue is terrible - one star off just for that. With that out of the way the statue itself is interesting despite being unfinished. I won't even start on its artistic value, because the review would be a 0 stars. The other two stars off are for the Danube "cruise" that we took from the statue.... 更多
In Orsova, on the cliff are plenty of boat rentals that will take you to most important attractions on Danube: Tabula Traiana, Iron gates, Statue of Decabalus, Mraconia Monastery, some caves and a great time spent on the cruise. This rock is sculptured with the face of King Decebal of Dacia like was Romania known before. It is on Romanian side of Danube facing the Serbian side, where Romans tried to make a bridge to cross to attack. Now it is a really impressive architecture.
