I went to the castle on a wet and windy day, it is a ruin. The castle is easily accessible by public transport or car. The bus takes you to Hadleigh church and needs a 20 minute walk. The train is also possible from Leigh on sea, with a 30 minute walk, (well signed but mud on path in winter).... 更多
This building originates from 15th century and if you half close your mind to the chemical works and docks you can see the knights on horseback riding up the hill towards you. Visited Hadleigh Castle ruins this Nov.2016, in what was a bitterly cold but very clear and bright day. It was not busy, and this helped us to be drawn into what was a very emotional experience. I first visited the Castle nearly 55 years ago and still visit now. Granted the ruins are not large but the views are stunning. Entry is free and you can walk for miles on the downs. The Salvation Army tearoom is well worth a visit for nice refreshments.
We love to take the dog to Hadleigh Castle. A grand view of the estuary, fields etc and at the end we pop into the Salvation Army Tea Rooms. It's brilliant value for money, food always freshly prepared and well presented.
We visited in August parking was tight, if there is room you can park in the road,if not you can park in the salvation army car park; it's pricey but i can't remember how much. It was a lovely day and the view from the top is wonderful. You can see Southend on sea and you can also see across... 更多
Not sure what this was. There was nothing to see really except for the views when looking away from the reason we went. Most of the ruins are gone. Nothing really close by but not from area so only going by why I saw when there. Not the kinda place I would ever want or need to go again. Tip...... 更多
I love this place. Granted it would be great if there was a bit more standing, but the castle still has lots of atmosphere and really is a beauty of a ruin.
