A self guided tour. But one of the staff Tommy caught up with us and told us of interesting information about the place. Bit of fun dressing up in the uniform of the time. Well worth a visit.
I've been to lots of museums, not usually my favorite thing, but they really did it right with this museum! Very modern and interactive and you really don't need any guides. So much history of the area. Really well worth the time!
We visited the Castle in 2010 while it was under renovation. They have done a first class job on it and it is well worth a visit...just don't arrive less than 2 hours to spend there. It closes at 6PM, so arriving after 4 means you'll be rushed.
Very nice attraction full of history and the stories that go along with Atlone and Ireland. Interactive presentations make it a nice spot to see how Ireland and the area survived and flourished over the years. Staff is very helpful and attentive. Lots of walking and ramps to get around. Watch your steps.Worth a stop!
A day out in Athlone. We arrived by train and made our way to the River where we found the Athlone Castle and visitor centre. 6 euros gave us OAP Admission to the Castle and museum. En route to Dublin, stopped off for a break so visited the castle. Excellent visitor attraction, surprising amount of history to the place. Not a big place but nice views and well laid out. Definitely recommend if you like history and interesting places. Very friendly staff.
The castle is located in the centre of athlone, right on the banks of the Shannon river. It has great exhibits, mostly focusing on the Siege of Athlone. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There are nice views of the town from the upper levels. An adult ticket is 8 euro.
We arrived at 10am as our leaflet indicated but found that it was an 11pm start on that particular day. By good fortune we spotted a member of staff who apologised for the out of date leaflet and switched on the everything so we could enter after a very short wail. The story of the siege is the highlight of... 更多
If you are interested in Athlone's history, this is a good place to go to get an overview of the Siege of Athlone. It also has a helpful tourist information center in the out buildings. There are discount coupons to be had - I believe the regular entrance fee is 8 euros for an adult which is a little more... 更多
Very centrally located--located in Athlone, it's close to the motorway (that's highway gringos :) and a great place to stop for a few hours for lunch and some culture on the drive between Dublin and Galway!
