The most striking thing about this place, other than its beauty, is the contrast between the size of the cathedral and the town its located in. The cathedral dates back to the 12th century and is now largely in ruins although the graveyard is still being used. There is a very interesting visitor centre which had a good exhibition on... 更多
These ancient ruins are worth a quick visit if you're in the area. There is some impressive architecture to see in what is left of the cathedral. There is also an adjacent ruin of a smaller building and a roofed building completes the complex. There's also a small exhibition covering the history and the reconstruction/preservation work.
There are a lot of these on the OPW heritage plan. The staff are great and the cathedral is very interesting. It is a quiet and contemplative site that is one of my favorite catherdral ruins in Ireland.
An interesting place to wander around. Get an impression about the local hstory. Plenty of free parking nearby on the roadside.
I really liked this cathedral. I know there are tons in Ireland but this is worth the visit. It is a bit different to what I'm used to seeing so I thought it was worth the time. There is great history here and the people at the entrance were really nice.

Strange to say about a historic site, but it would have been okay if we had missed it. The wind was so strong and it was sprinkling, and the entire thing was open air. It was charming, but because it wasn't covered, and with the Irish weather, we were so quick and didn't fully take it in.
