In the center of town, this quiet stone circle provides a spot to think about its possible purpose and contemplate the people who lived here long ago
It is quite a drive from Kenmare and the "rode" that leads you to the circle is a 1 car road, BEWARE of other cars! The circle is like many around Ireland, but this one has an excellent view of the sea and the country side.
The stone circle is around 3000 years old and is in good condition. It was easy to walk here since it is located close from the town centre. When I was there the booth was not manned, I payed a few euros entrance fee that I put in a box and got an information leaflet about the site.
Whilst this attraction is conveniently close to Kenmare, within walking distance of the town centre actually, it is worth visit. It is possible to wander round the stones and marvel at their placement, but I prefered the set up at Drombeg Stone Circle, which was more like Stonehenge though without the barriers. Short walk out of town, overlooking a river with a field of sheep. You pay a small entrance fee in a jar, on your honor. Loved the accessibility of it as you can touch the rocks which you cannot do with Stonehenge.
