Great front although it was closed for the season when I called (sep) still it was interesting to read the info about the history and the way the castle was caught using tunnels , nice wee info ratio centre and garden to the front markets open across the road where you can see it better while having a sandwich .
We arrived thinking this was a free and self-guided castle tour. It was definitely not self-guided, there were chains keeping us out. And, I think the booth had a charge listed but am not 100% sure. We wandered around outside and got a feel for it but did not wait for the guided tour.
Thanks to lovely energetic Annette, the guide, the visit was very pleasant. She explained us about the castle and the "closets" to keep the dresses out of lice (!!!) and the way they used horses' hair to fortify the mortar!
They only have guided tours but they are free. Not much left of the whole castle but the tour lasts about 40 minutes and packed with details that we did not know about. Even though we are kind of well read and have visited other tower castles recently. Very very good.
Take the tour! The lady there (cannot remember her name) is just full of information and details about the town and the castle's history. Fascinating to walk into the remaining rooms.
This simple, guided tour of this partial castle was very interesting. The gentleman that led our small group through was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot! If you don't have a lot of time and want to take some Irish /Castle history in this is perfect! Be prepared to climb a fair amount of good stairs ....
Took tour with 4 German people and another Irish couple. Tour guide Mike was great and tour itself was very interesting. Wonderful sights, but one needs to be able to climb stairs! Wold highly reccomend it
