Kaspar Stockalper was an early capitalist genius. He simply sold and bought everything that promised to be profitable on those days. His impressive palace in Brig is a testimony to his wealth and worldly power. The building is the biggest private building of the 17th century in Switzerland. Visit this representative castle and learn about the symbolism and the history of that place. The adjoining gardens as well as the exhibition "Passage Simplon" are worth a visit too. Had a guide who explained the history of the castle and the wealthy man who created the castle. There are beautiful gardens here, but so much more. If you tour the castle many interesting rooms. The outer beauty is obvious; but the rooms open to the public were used for political decisions. Some people also live in the palace; which... 更多

Many travel guides overlook Brig. This is the second time we came to visit, and this time we returned determined make time for the guided tour of the palace, unfortunately for us the tour was mostly in German. There is a good exhibit about the 12mi Simplon Tunnel project in the visitors center.

I have a few insights into the Stockalperschloss since it is my family's ancestral castle. Due to expensive upkeep, the castle has now become a museum and the government offices of Brig (my cousins' civil ceremony weddings have all taken place here). Because of this, the castle has a modern elevator which is great for the handicapped. There is also... 更多

Not much of the castle is shown as part of the tour. Tour guide was friendly. Tour was in German. A short synopsis of the tour is available in English. Museum of Simplon tunnel was interesting.

Spent a sunny day in Brig (when Adelboden was cloudy and chilly!) and really liked wandering around the cobbled streets, tiny alleyways, and watching the river race by. Contrary to an earlier review, anyone can join the hourly guided tours of the castle - and if you have a Swiss Pass it is a free tour! Sadly they don't provide... 更多

Stopped for lunch on way from Lake Maggiore to Zermatt. Brig makes for a great way point as it's about halfway and has a nice old town. The Schloss is the centerpiece of the Altstadt and is quite impressive but unfortunately we didn't have time for the tour. Maybe next time.

Nice park, interesting building, old town surrounds worth walking around. Not tempted inside as had read mixed reviews of the guided tour.

The Stockalperschloss is a remnant of the political history of the region of Oberwallis. It was built by the Stockalper family, as a token of their wealth and power, drawn from trade across the alps, with Italy. Paying it a visit is surely a thing to do, if you are travelling in the region. It has very beautiful gardens, and... 更多
