We took the Ferry (as part of a Viking River Cruise Tour), we were served Beer and a Pretzel on the way to Monastery Weitenburg - There is a bit of a walk from the Ferry to the Monastery, but we didn't mind. The history and architect is amazing.
Our tour took us here, and there is a lot going on. It's a little bit of a hike from where you park to the monastery, but nothing insurmountable. The chapel is lovely, but the 25 minute lecture to learn every detail about the building is a bit much. Then there is a 12-minute film to tell you about the... 更多
Worth a trip to see this amazing baroque Abbey. Check out the flood history written on the entrance to the compound on the river side. There is also a small chapel a few minutes up the hill that is worth seeing as well as the view. Try their 1050 ano beer, terrific!
Take the ferry from Kelheim. The trip is interesting and in English/German. You can also walk if the weather is nice. We were lucky in going on a quiet day likely due to the light rain. The monk who lead the tour in the church was very interesting. He pointed out all of the religious, historical, and humorous statues. Quite... 更多
We could not take the boat because the river was flooded so we drove. The drive was nice but when we got there the parking lot was completely flooded as well! I am glad they didn't risk the boat in this high water. Because we were late arriving we missed the last tour of the brewery but could go in... 更多
A great place to walk to from Kelheim or Essing. You can get there by boat or car, also. Be sure to stay and enjoy one of their beers and food. A walk in the hills above is worth the effort.
Arrived by ferry from Kelheim with about 500 or 600 other people to join chaotic scrum at the Abbey. The organisation was non-existent. There were another 1000 / 1500 people already inside the enclosed courtyard, mostly eating and drinking at tables. This had been described to us as a 'beer garden' - it wasn't. We had a 20 min description... 更多
Located on a picturesque bend in the Danube, this is a very popular destination and definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, specially if the weather is nice. We were mostly interested in the brewery tour, especially since this is the oldest monastery brewery in the world, dating back to 1050. In reality the facilities are of... 更多
A great walk destination, the benedictine monks have been brewing beer here for 1000 years. It is popular and crowded, but the service was prompt and the beer and Bavarian meatloaf a hit with everyone. The meatloaf, local Bavarian cuisine, looks like and has the consistency of a hot dog, but was excellent and even the grandkids ate it. Give... 更多
