We were travelling across France on a nostalgia visit and we decided to visit Compiegne and the famous Clairiere de l'Armistice in the forest nearby. We were particularly interested, as our parents had been there in the 70s and talked of a railway carriage in a clearing guarded by forbidding-looking soldiers. We were therefore surprised to see that the carriage... 更多
We really enjoyed our visit here and when you look at all the displays it really transports you back in time. Both adults and kids enjoyed the displays.
An important stop on our tour of World War II sites and this was an amazing place to visit. I didn't realise how stirring this would feel but it was spine tingling to know what had happened here in both the first and second World Wars.
This place is so important in the history of 2world wars and is a must visit if in the area .It is a tranquil setting with some statues in the outside groups and approach to the famous railway carriage. The entry fee is very reasonable around £5 for the amount of information, exhibition of equipment, letters, photos and other exhibits .It attracted a... 更多
This place is easy to find and well signposted. There is plenty of parking. It is such an evocative space that everyone has seen on old newsreels. It is also strangely quiet with no birdsong. There is an excellent museum and an exact replica of the First World War Armistice carriage. The original was destroyed in a bombing raid in... 更多
A site of historical importance in all of our history. It is just a place of quiet and calm with a deep sense of what happened here - in both wars. The photograph section is one of the most moving places I have been in. It brings you face-to-face with some of the realities of WW1. And it gives you... 更多
Just a quick detour from the highway, and you're in a beautiful, tranquil, and historical site. The walk from the parking lot is easy and shaded. We did not tour the tiny museum, but instead enjoyed walking through the park-like setting and taking in this little bit of history.
Interesting to visit for the history of the Armistice signing and to see the carriage. Lots of information, however, only some in english so difficult to fully understand. Lots of photos and memoribilia to look at. We visited in July and it was very very warm in the display rooms. This prevented us spending more time as it was uncomfortable.
We enjoyed this visit. It was interesting and had lots of photographs. It was mostly all in French which is fine, but it was a shame that we couldn't understand so much of it. I don't expect things to be written in English for me but it really would have helped all the foreign visitors understand more about such a... 更多
I only spent a short time here but it was long enough to soak up the humbling atmosphere and an appreciation of the historical significance of this clearing in the forest. At the foremost of my mind was the horrors of W.W.I. and the enormous suffering and loss of life, only to be repeated, albeit in a different way, twenty years... 更多
