In a piazza filled with grand buildings, the 13th century, Palazzo dei Priori demands your attention due to the emblems on the facade. Climb the Clock Tower for views over Volterra. Entry is covered by the Volterra Card. Palazzo dei Priori is located in a beautiful piazza in a truly beautiful town.
We were lucky enough to see a wedding as we began our tour of Volterra in this Palazzo. Good luck! Definitely get the audio guide from the tourist info center ( 5 euros) and follow the self guided tour.
You might find that hill towns of Tuscany/Umbria have much in common. Etruscan style is very evident in structures - however, Volterra is one of the nicer. Very picturesque. Alabaster shops abound. Who knew! Aside from neat views the shops are interesting. Worth a stop if in the area.
Volterra is not on the must see list for most tourists and that is a shame. It's a beautiful city, especially for walkers. And the Palazzo dominates one side of the central square. Great building to take a look at while you are watching the day go by. Great building.
We held our wedding ceremony in this wonderful building. The room on the second floor is full of beautiful fresco's - a stunning venue for a wedding. At the end of the ceremony we were presented with a commemorative alabaster dish by the Commune. You are unlikely to find a more romantic setting for your special day - simply amazing1!
Greeting you as you enter the square is this remarkable edifice with its regalia on the front and its dentil stonework along the top.
