The names of the underground are intriguing as well as the square it is found in. I did the recorded tour which was worth it because I could go at my pace, which was quick. There is not much to see underground, but a few set up scenes. Still it is worth the trip and the history behind the tunnels... 更多
The guided tour gave interesting information about the history of the tunnels. The prospect of future expansion in length is positive for this small independent organisation. The products on sale in the above ground shop are mainly produced locally. It is a worthwhile value for money visit.
Viterbo Sotterranea is a network of tunnels under the city. It is still open to debate as whether or not the Etruscans started the tunnels, some scholars believe they were for collecting water. A little tour beneath a deinks and gift shop giving a guide to how some inhabitants of Viterbo lived right back to Etruscan times, Cool on a hot summers day as well !
It was nice to discover the underground used at different periods of history. The audio guides made the discovery interesting with our kids (15 and 10). They both enjoyed the visit, especially since it was short, but to the point and informative. It is still under development to make it longer, but it is already with the visit.
Our enthusiastic guide, with excellent English, took us through the 150 m of underground caves which provided a snapshot from the Entruscan times, through medieval harshness to surviving WW2. In November they intend to extend into another tunnel which will add 500 m traversing to San Pelligrino. We were also given a good introduction to local delicacies, drinks and jewellery... 更多
This was a very interesting part of Viterbo history that I knew nothing about. The guide was very informative, she spoke great English, and you could tell she loved the history of the underground tunnels. The tour was very interesting, and I definitely recommend it.
I went there with my friends today. The underground is impressive and the guide explained very well the history of it and yet a lot to discover down there. Wish I can come back in a couple of years to know what they discovered. I also bought a lovely Christmas tree decoration completely home made
