This is a beautiful, simple church not far from the cathedral (duomo) in Arezzo. It is well worth searching out among the alleys and byways.
The church stands on the edge of a peaceful square, and features 13th and 14th century artwork.
The exterior is in the austere medieval style. When you enter, the atmosphere is the same: serene, simple, peaceful, largely undecorated. The Cimabue crucifix is one of his masterpieces. Absolutely worth visiting this small church for the Cimabue.
Definitely worth a visit. Off the beaten track in Arezzo, but well worth the wander down there. Simplicity at it's best. You might even enjoy sitting in the piazza outside this beautiful church: properly classic piazza.
We only found this as we were on a guided walk. The outside looks good, however the inside needs restoration. The bit that makes this church different is the crucifix, however you need to pay 1 Euro to shine a light on the cross.
This church is in a piazza with benches and shade trees, good for taking a break. The church is small and usually deserted. There are some crumbling frescoes on the walls, but the star is a magnificent crucifix by Cimabue. Pay the euro to hear the history of the church and light up the cross, you can't really appreciate it...
