I'm not a hiker, so the prospects of a 16km hike seemed a bit daunting and we decided to go for this shorter hike. It was beautiful walk and not too difficult. There were some parts where you have to climb over some rocks and quite a few wobbly stone river beds to walk along, but nothing crazy. We took... 更多
Took the bus from chania at 08:45 and arrived at Agaria Irini ca 2 hours later. Dont forget to say to the bus driver that you want to get of at the gorge. I did and almost missed the stop. I took a cup of coffe and a soda in the cosy little cafe on the top. Began walking at... 更多
Some describe this as an easy walk. It is not. The 8 km hike through the shade of the pine forest or rock walls compared to a 16 km hike with steep descends into a gorge which offers no protection from the sun is an easier alternative to Samaria nearby but make no mistake, it is not 'easy'. At times... 更多
Beautiful gorge, green and impressive rock formations. We did the gorge walk ascending starting from Sougia. If you continue the gorge walk where the E4 takes a left turn out of the gorge, you can take a right up the hills and return to Sougia walking on a 260m plateau and finally descending back to Sougia with excellent views on... 更多
The track starts just south of Agia Irini village at a parking and tavern. Take the bus or a taxi from Sougia to get there. The path has some steep parts but is not too difficult for regular hikers. One time you have to use a ladder to descend a large boulder. The surface is partly sandy and partly rocky.... 更多
One of a number of truly beautiful Gorge walks on Crete. Take water and wear solid footwear. It is a truly beautiful and serene location. Try and get there just after sun rise to beat the tourists and to enable you to take your time.
If you have young children this is perfect. Our 6 and 8 year old boys loved it and managed to tackle the 7km without any major issues. There is some climbing involved but the trail is well marked with picnic areas and toilets halfway in. It is not as spectacular as Samaria but it is very beautiful and for me... 更多
I am not an avid hiker, but found this walk to be relatively easy. It starts off quite flat but after about a kilometre, it gets quite steep. The walkway is narrow at some points and very close to the edge in some areas. However, there are banisters placed along these areas to provide some support and prevent falls. There... 更多
Crete has many gorges and this one offers very nice scenery in a walk of modest length. The cafe at the exit of the gorge offers sale of much appreciated refreshments. There are often taxis at this cafe. There remains about five (?) km on asfalt to Sougia, so a taxi is well worth considering at the cafe.
We did this walk with our 4 year old. The gorge is stunning and our boy loved it, although he was disappointed that there were no bears in the caves we found (Crete has no bears). There is a bus back to Sougia from the Oasis taverna situated at the end of the gorge, so you can avoid the boring... 更多
