We spent about a week hiking the western half of South Downs Way, along with some stops to visit Winchester, the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum in Singleton, and Arundel Castle in Arundel. A comparatively new National Park, this extensive area is superb for walking and exploring the South Downs. Highly recommended with some fantastic views en route!
Although it was cold and raining, our hike was beautiful nonetheless. We explored the hills, you can walk through a field of sheep. Then the walk to the ocean with views of the limestone cliffs, stunning even when we were soaked :) a must do trail that is family and dog friendly!
Haslemere is an excellent 'Gateway' to The South Downs National Park. Travelled by train from Reading and walked from the station following the signposted route for the Serpent Trail. Really enjoyed mountain biking on the downs. Weather fantastic, views even better. Everyone we met said hello. Definitely worth making the effor.
The South Down National park is extensive - it is a lovely area and the views down to the sea are spectacular. A truly lovely place to take a walk and admire this lovely area.
