This is an unusual and great place to take kids on a rainy day. This is a working mine and decked out in helmets ans lamps visitors are taken to see the coal face and get an idea of how men and children worked underground a hundred years ago.
As I grew up near the Forest of Dean, I found it fascinating to see inside the mine and to learn about free mining from a genuine free miner. Our guide was friendly and was happy to answer our questions. It was also nice to find some peace and quite away from the crowds on an August weekend. I do... 更多
Staff were informative and friendly. The tour was fascinating, and it showed us a lot more of a working mine than we thought we would see. The surrounding area and countryside is beautiful and my son really enjoyed it. Tour guide tailored the experience to the age of the children, although it was still good for adults.
A real eye opener to the hard life of a miner and their families. This rustic gem allows you too appreciate how challenging the conditions are in the dark underground and working in cramped areas. All of our many questions were answered by our real life miner Rich come tour guide. Turn up with plenty of time as may have... 更多
Amazing experience, thoroughly recommend it. The tour guide was a miner and you found out first hand who freeminers are, how they work their mines and obtain a real insight into their life. The Guide was really interesting to listen to, interacted well with the children and made the tour really enjoyable, absolutely brilliant.
We went on a wet day which was perfect. Very reasonable entrance fee. The tour guide is a miner and is so knowledgeable. The mine is fascinating and the history too. It would be a tricky visit for the less mobile as there is quite an incline. We would recommend this to anyone who is in the area.
I visited Hopewell Colliery with my girlfriend in August 2016 whilst on a camping trip in the Forest Of Dean. The museum and mine are set deep in the forest and really give you a sense of the old mining days. The museum itself is small but has plenty inside to keep you interested while you wait for your tour... 更多
Fascinating to see a working colliery which had a mine which was worked by hand and to understand the life of a Free Miner. Guide was very knowledgable and provided a personal tour of the mine. A very worthwhile place to visit.
We spotted this attraction when cycling swiftly downhill on the hair-raising main road. The guide kindly showed us where to go to do the rest of the day off road. Anyway, the attraction: There was a guided tour including going underground, which was very interesting. Being 5'4" tall I was about the right height not to have to stoop through... 更多
