We opted for the most extensive tour available and felt it was great value. The supposed two hour tour ran for three hours, with a wonderful commentary from two guides, Reg and Jo. They provided fascinating details of the life of the east and west houses (back and front) through the centuries, relating to generations of the Fitzwilliam family and... 更多
One of the most atmospheric and enormous houses we've ever seen. Superb 3-hour guided tour by Reg and Jo. The £25pp fee is worth it. Pre-booked tours only. No photography indoors (a private house). Refreshingly free of all the marketing, money making schemes, and tourist attraction paraphernalia seen at many stately homes. We are so lucky that this house has... 更多
A wonderful house tour conducted by guides Reg and Jo who were very informative. The house is fantastic and the grounds too. Having read Black Diamonds the book about the family who lived in the house - it brought it all to life. The guides were so helpful and answered all questions put to them. They held our interest throughout... 更多
All tours are pre-booked but the one we went on only had 15 people on it so you could hear and see everything really well. Our guides were knowledgeable and our house guide had obviously spent his life working for the family. Don't expect fine paintings and furniture as most of it has been sold off to finance the maintenance... 更多
can I just correct one of your comments? the paintings and furniture was sold in 1948/49 when the major portion... 更多
This huge and forgotten stately home has been going to ruin for many years with only minimal maintenance due to a lack of funding. We parked outside the estate and walked down a public footpath down the side of the house which allows you to view the frontage - this seems to be what many people do as we passed... 更多
I'm sorry you were unable to book a tour of Wentworth Woodhouse on your recent visit, either fortunately or unfortunately... 更多
The house is amazing - only partially renovated but the rooms we saw and the gardens and views were very interesting and beautiful. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They were all so obviously passionate about the place - rightly so. We had brilliant help with my husband's disability also - thank you!
We've always wanted to visit having read the book Black Diamonds and were not disappointed. Luckily we were able see both the East and West wings as well as the garden. The guided tour was superbly led by Lynn who brought the place alive. It'll be best to go before the possible sale potentially impacts future access.
We have just visited Wentworth Woodhouse and would highly recommend going. The scale of the house is unbelievable and you see it warts and all. What a change to visit a house that isn't stuffed full of furniture and dull pictures of long-lost ancestors - it enables you to get a true perspective on the size of the rooms. You... 更多
A fascinating building, the longest house in Britain. The staff were really excellent and dedicated to preserving this piece of history. Its future is in doubt so go now before it is too late and lend your support to this worthy cause
A very unusual house with very mixed fortunes. It would be such a shame if it was not restored to its former glory. The estate has been built on the blood sweat and tears of the local community, so emotionally a big part of it belongs to the decentents of the Fitzwilliam workers. It is good to see a work... 更多
