France is full of castles, but if you want to get a real feel for 10th Century garrison life visit Puilaurens Castle! The views are spectacular too.
We've been here before. I must say, these are probably the cathare castle ruins i prefer. It's less touristy and very romantic and dreamy. There's long gras moving to and fro in the inner courtyard and most of the time it's very silent. I made some great photos there. Also check out Peyrepertuse, Quéribus, Puivert, Las Tors (Montségur should be... 更多
A Cathar landmark which can be visited in conjunction with the close by castles of Peyrepertuse and Quéribus. There's an invigorating walk up from the car park, but you can also walk up from the village if you're feeling up to it. Get the 'passport', which gets you a reduction off every Cathar site visited as well as allowing a... 更多
The walk up to the castle is not too difficult - take your time, and the view is amazing.... it's easy to understand why a castle was built on this side. It's a bit more difficult to imagine how all the building materials have been hauled up; and even how the former owners (kings & queens) traveled up. A must... 更多
Our first of three castles in a day! A steep climb up over rough ground but worth it for the amazing views. The French don't believe in health and safety - some sheer drops in places! You'd never be allowed the access in the safety conscious UK! I prefer the French approach to leave it to each individual's common sense!
An interesting Cathar chateau, stunning scenery all around and on the winding road up to the chateau. There is a car park at the foot of the hill to the chateau. There is an entrance fee of 5€ to walk round the ruins. It is quite a steep walk up so need to be fairly fit!!
My grind and I decided to visit the chateaux on a lovely sunny afternoon. I have passed it many times, as I have a house in the next village. At night it looks fantastic lit up with blue lights. We went to purchases a ticket from a pleasant lady (seen other reviews but she seemed ok maybe different person at... 更多
This was our fourth Cathar castle - it certainly looked spectacular. However, the ticket office attendant was not accommodating, and we couldn't get to climb up to the castle. Although we were there mid-morning, the ticket attendant didn't have any change - not a single coin! Can you believe it? I offered a 20 euro note for 16 euros fees,... 更多
