Architecture of the building is amazing. It looks great from each angle. Just walk around and admire various sculptures and flowers. By the entrance to the station there is a lovely dandelion-like fountain.
I did not step inside, but outside the building is huge and impressive. This theatre has a really wonderful façade with classical columns and a decorated pediment. In front of the theatre are statues of Henrik Ibsen and Bjornstjere Bjornson. The theatre is closely associated with Ibsen who lived close by for many years. We looked into the foyer which is quite ornate.
This is a grand building which I could imagine had seen many years of pomp and grandeur. If one walks the full round around the theater, one can appreciate the full beauty of the architecture. The interiors look older though and not as grand.

Went to the National Theatre and saw "Fortapte menn". Great show, and you can reserve a table and pre order drinks for the intermission.
The old structural building from 1890 with some 115 years age still stands good admist the surround landscaped planters and sculptures. If you have time, you should see the opera at play by purchasing tickets and view the interior decoration of the theatre at leisure.
