Well worth the walk up from the village. Spectacular location with fine views over the surrounding countryside. Many good forest walks nearby. You don't have to be a devotee of St Francis to appreciate this place!
Italian friends took me to La Verna. I had no idea where we were going and what to expect. We were able to attend Mass (not something I do often, but it was nice to hear it in Italian). We walked the beautiful peaceful grounds. Explored. Felt the great energy up in the hills and woods. It was a lovely... 更多
I visited the monastery on a Friday the history and views are absolutely amazing. Even though the restaurant had limited types of food it was excellent. I would recommend visit here.
Silence of the remote countryside, breathtaking panoramas, places that once inspired St. Francis... all this justifies the special affection of the visitors. Open daily from 6:30am until sunset. Masses are held several times a day. A visit here can be truly inspirational!
Besides being a truly religious and cultural central point in Tuscany/Umbria, the monastery - with nearly twenty active San Francesco brethren - operates a lodging management which can't be bescrived as other than a hotel business. Based on the beliefs of "no profit" it is, for the visitor, very cheap and includes options to stay at the convent in a... 更多
Even with a couple of tour bus loads of tourists this St Francis focused site is spiritually restful. We caught an afternoon service with the resident monks processing from the Basilica to the Chapel of the Stigmata. Powerful presence of St Francis. We actually over-nighted at the Franciscan guest house so we could wander the grounds, the grottos, and the... 更多
We did not realise even in a car how long it would take to get hear, imagine the pilgrims making this journey by foot. The road twisted for miles, I even thought at one stage we were literally driving up to heaven. You can totally understand the reasoning for such place, when you finally arrive its total peace and cut... 更多
A beautiful mountain in the mountains! I went there with a group and we were visiting places where Saint Francis of Assisi lived. We spent a whole day there and it was the nearest I got to heaven. You see ever changing scenery as you go up a good road, a new one not the original one which still can be... 更多
I teach at a Franciscan university and am on sabbatical. This was a very moving experience for me. St Francis is, in my opinion, one of the most important figures in Western history and a visit here is to walk in his footsteps, sit in his woods, and draw near to a person we should all see as a model... 更多
As part of a Franciscan Pilgrimage, La Verna was a favorite site for almost everyone in our group. The bus ride through Tuscany and up into the mountain retreat of St. Francis was inspiring. If it were not more than 5,000 miles away, I would visit frequently! The noon meal served to our group was one of our best meals... 更多
