Hafnarfjordur was the original port in Iceland. It's a small city, but nice to stroll around in and very scenic. They have a really interesting museum in the downtown area that tells the history of the port. It won't take you long and is definitely worth a visit.
We explored Hafnarfjörður a couple of times and we loved the authenticity of the place and the views across the old harbour.
This is a traditional Icelandic town with typical Icelandic buildings and attractions.
It was raining, so drove to the port. Not much to see apart from a couple of sea going trawlers tied up. It does have a burger bar. petrol station and right at the end of the shopping containers, is a paved walkway to the harbour entrance. Last resort.
Hafnarfjordur is a very pleasnt small town.It has a river running through it down to the coast. There are quaint houses with different coloured roofs.Plenty of shops, cafe's,restaurants and bars.Above all it is very clean and less busy than Reykjavik.Well worth a visit.
A few saying not a lot going on but need to remember there is a small population in the WHOLE of Iceland. Was a good place to go exploring and have a relax in a coffee house. Beautiful panoramic views and the harbor area was beautiful
