It overlooks the squre named after it.
You will see the building when you come to visit the Helsinki cathedral and square.

Two of the buildings are on opposite sides of Senate Square. They frame the square beautifully and add interest to the large square. Our tour guide told us they were designed by Carl Engel in the 1800's. Don't go out of your way to see the buildings as they can be seen when you visit Senate Square.
The whole area is full of places worth seeing. This building symbolizes the democracy of this young country as well as its history under great powers. The senate square itself is a major place, the cathedral on the left, the architecture of the buildings on the left etc...
