We were unaware and did not find out on the website but the building was, as of July 2016, closed to visitors. This should be displayed prominently on their website but it was not. Coming from the Ring Rail Line from the airport to my hotel with my suitcases it seemed as though the building works had been completed. The Parliament house is ongoing a long renovation and is scheduled to open latest on the day when Finland has its 100th anniversary next year. It is the largest building I saw in Helsinki. It had much construction taking place so it needed some effort to enjoy its majestic appearance. I was amazed with the amount of granite in the building.
I stay in an hotel just over the road from the parliament building, so I have seen it loads of times. It's impressive, but a bit stifling. looks like Christo was here... The whole parliament is packed and covered for reconstruction. Nothing to see, neither from inside nor from outside. It will have to wait for your next visit to Helsinki...
