The holy temple can be reached by road very easily and after parking it's a 5 minutes walk . You can offer prayer at Holy river Ganga just below the Temple. If you go further up 18 km you can go to Go Mukh the origin of Ganga and 24 km takes you to Tapovan.

I travelled recently to Gangotri temple using public transport from Utharkashi. During offseason, there is only one bus which starts at 7AM and reaches Gangotri temple at about 11:30AM.
