Beautiful views from the mountain top of Santa Luzia. There are actually two ways to go up the tower. There is an entrance on the east side and a second one on the west side of the church.
Definitely harder climb on the west side. You don't get up as high on the east side but it's a much easier...
We didn't get to look at the interior of the church because there was a fairly intense wedding going on but it is worth the €1 to go up to the top of the dome. Warning - if you are bad with heights and small spaces like me it's a bit hairy, but if I can get up there then...
This church is perched on a hilltop overlooking the Portuguese coastline with the Atlantic, views are breathtaking. The church itself is not huge, but the architecture is nice and quite unique. We met a lovely couple having their wedding and signing ceremony there - the setting and the old Citron wedding car were like in a movie!
The Santuaro sits above the city, reached by a winding road to the top of the mountain. The views from the top are amazing overlooking the city, the harbour and the river.
For a small fee you can go to the top of the dome, partly reached by a lift, but there are about 40 steps that need to be...
This is the church that stands tall on the hilltop as you approach Viana do Castelo and this is the church that dominates the foreground in views from the Pousada above.
More modern that you would expect and modelled on the French Sacred Heart.
Well worth a look inside but drive or take the funicular railway as it's certainly not...
You do not want to miss it!! Amazing place, superb views to the city, to Lima river, to the sea... Fantastic!!
Beautiful church. You can go to the top of it. Worth the visit!
We went in the church and there was a choir singing... just beautiful!
Don't miss it!!
You get a great view of the city from up here and can go up to the top of the building for the best views (though it is very windy). Make sure you go up the correct side of the building though as on one side you only get about half way up.
It was a very rainy day when we landed at this location. But left on us a desire to come back in a sunny day. The view, do limited, was spectacular. How these people brought all the materials to the top of this mountain to build this fascinating church.
