As adult, be prepared to be bored. Also, make sure you don't get ripped off at the entrance: don't pay for all the attractions. Just pay per attraction. Most of them are not in English or just boring. The train ride around the park is a rather sad ride while you inhale diesel fumes. I can see how this place... 更多
We drove up from Funchal expecting to learn about the history of the early settlers and these A frame houses. The village is pretty uninspiring and there is no information available. We had a wander around but we were not impressed and head back to Funchal. Total tourist trap that is sadly lacking any kerb appeal.
I loved visiting Santana on my second visit to Madeira. The place is beautiful, little typical houses and some nice restaurants (Cantinho da Serra). Not sure why this is not highly ranked on tripadvisor, assuming people go by bus and expect to spend the whole day here. This is a place to drive by car, and spend 1h or less... 更多
We went to Santana from Funchal on the 56 bus, leaving at 10 am. It was an enjoyable 85 minute ride over the mountain range to the terminus at Santana and opened our eyes to the much wilder scenery in the northern gorges. Gotcha No.1 We left the terminus on the 1530 bus and were very surprised to find that... 更多
Santana is close to one of the most impressive levada walkings in Madeira: Caldeirao Verde and Caldeirao do Inferno (the second one is an extension of the first). I did the first with my parents and it was awesome. I would recommend to stay at least one night in Santana if you have the opportunity. Its typical house are very... 更多
A very nice town with the old styles 'A' houses on show. Very picturesque place to visit. Inside the houses you can purchase local crafts from local people who are helpful.
We came on the bus over the mountains which was an exciting ride. We we re on the bus that went on further and the bus driver didn't indicate where we should get off so we ended up walking back from the supermarket at the bottom of the hill! We walked back in to the touristy bit of the town... 更多
We visited Santana as part of an East of the island tour. The town is pleasant but the main attraction for us were the A-framed houses. They were built in the style of the buildings lived in by the early settlers on the island and they did not disappoint. They looked very sturdy and were wonderfully colourful. Most, if not... 更多
The area around the A framed houses is created for tourists so is a bit artificial and there is not much else in the actual village. There is another A framed house you can visit down a side street, which is owned by an elderly couple with an eclectic taste in decor to put it mildly. The man sits in... 更多
