This is a lovely museum which proved a definite hit with our 2 year old. The exhibits explain the history of the building, D. Carlos' marine expeditions, the local traditional marine industry, local marine life and there is also a section of marine fossils. There is plenty of mixed media to keep littl'uns interested. We went there with our son and loved it. It's a small museum that you can cover within an hour. Lots of work put into the displays. Great for toddlers. 3£ admission.
Nice museum about the sea around Cascais and Portugal, from the fish to the fishermen, dating from the 19th century.
I would consider at least 1 hour to enjoy this great place. You can learn a lot from portuguese and local fishing place. Great for kids. Photograph not allowed. Parking easy at surrounding area. About 8 min walk from city centre.

We went to the museum with our kids (8month and 2,5years) and it was a lot to see with different creatures from the sea and it was interesting to learn more about the former King Carlos the first and his interest in both cascais and the ocean.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, especially the exhibits devoted to the Oceanographic study that took place based here in Cascais. An interesting history of the fishing industry as well including explanations of the different types of rig in use for different species.
