Furnas is a cozy place in a valley, where the botanic gardens, the geisers can be found next to the lake of Furnas with the charismatic church . The famous food , warmed uo at the geisers can be eaten here . The view fro the mountains over Furnas and other side are truely amazing !
This is a lovely town with lovely homes, restaurants and the famous cooking in the ground of local foods. Enjoyed sampling the various water from the springs, please be aware of the sulfur smell that permeates the air.
We found furnas rather busy and very toursity, but with some nice sights to see. The hot springs in town and by the lake were interesting, eating the cozido stew, visiting Terra Nostra gardens,we spent most of a day here.
If you travel to Sao Miguel island, you have to get out of Ponta Delgada and see some of the sights of the island. This place is one of them. The caldeiras and Terra Nostra Gardens are not-to-be-missed sights, and the town itself is very pleasant to stroll through.
