My family and I loved visiting Furnas. There are natural mineral water springs located all over the place and you can sample the water from each of them! It is just a really nice place to spend an afternoon exploring.
Spectacular... Hike to the "secret " waterfall ! You won't regret it! Amazingly to Romantic! There is a beautiful old church on the grounds... Ask for the tour! The abundance of trees that have been collected and labeled from all over the world are unusual and breathtaking!
After viewing the amazing landscape, find your way to the area where local restaurants cook their food in the heat generated by the hot springs - it is roped off and attracts crowds so you cannot miss it. Slightly outside of the town of Furnas, we found the picturesque complex of geysers, hot-springs and fumaroles. For such a special place, it is surprising there is no entrance fee. The thermal baths here are different from other ones I have been to, very mineral rich. The water temp is quite warm, similar to a hot tub. What a fascinating place, our second trip here. We walked all over the town. The caldeiras, old churches, Terra Nostra botanical garden.
