This place is close to Amsterdam central station, and part of old amsterdam city. This use to be part of the outer wall of Amsterdam, no longer. The tower itself is not interesting in terms of architecture, but the story is. This is said to be where the sailors wives bade farewell to their husbands, hence the name weeping tower.... 更多
Stopped by here several times for a beer or something to eat. Essentially a pub with a limited menu (tasty enough!), this is a welcome halt on hot days, whether sitting inside in the cool or out on the terrace. Staff are excellent; laid back, friendly and chatty. A place to wind down and take five.
The food is terrible. We are both spending our last evening in the city lying in bed trying not to vomit. He had the burger (cheap, frozen and deep fried with a sad looking bun). I had fries which were crispy, hard and filled with oil. We've both felt ill soon after leaving.
We saw this building for the second time on our recent visit. This time it was from a canal boat trip which gave a vastly diferent view than seeing it on foot. It used to be one of the gates to the city.
The building itself is not exactly impressive, even though it is a nice semi-round tower that used to be one gate of the city. However the stories about the name and the controversy about it makes it an interesting site to see. You can learn about it in most boat tours because they pass by it.
We've visited Amsterdam several times over the years and always walked by this medieval tower, but never went in. I would highly recommend you go in and enjoy a beer, cocktail or food. Once inside, the atmosphere transports you back in time...so much history about this tower that was built in the 15th century. The outdoor seating area over the canal... 更多
In my opinion, the less interesting(from architectural point of view speaking) of the Amsterdam's towers, placed not far from Amsterdam Centraal railway. Now it houses a small cafe.
This is a medieval tower with a bar inside for food and drinks, we went in just for drinks, but also the outdoor seating area over the canal which has a great view, the inside is also amazing, not suitable for disabled people though as steps to enter and narrow winding steps down to the toilets, but this is a... 更多
We loved it here. So much so that we visited twice in two days! The staff are excellent and service is very attentive. This is a great place to stop for lunch/snacks and a beer or a juice. Great history, ambiance and interest... and a resident cat as well. The broodje gezond is highly recommended for lunch.
