If possible do it both in daylight and evening time. Daytime you get a glimpse on what the old Amsterdam is all about. And in the evening/nighttime the lights are awesome.
very hie, we took about two hours boat ride in a smaller boat, with some refreshments, the guide spoke English as eel as german and provided lots of interesting hints, it was easy to get lost during the cruise as the canal goes in circles...nice experience and good way to take a break from the walking

It´s impossible not to think of the canals when referring to Amsterdam. They're so beautiful with all those bikes attached to the bridges railings. the canals over amstel make for a perfect night walk. every now and then, people on bikes pedaling away and boats passing complete the i would say almost romantic mood the place somehow exudes (and i dont consider venezia to be the perfect place for romantic getaways, mind you). the building reflected into the water, the haze surrounding the river... 更多
We took a boat trip in Emperor's Canal with an Audio guide. Lots of pretty sights all around. If you have time stroll along the canal banks, it is a great fun in itself!
